In my recent post defending BtVS' season six, I mentioned that S6 references season two in several crucial ways.  For fun and profit I rewatched the Dark Willow eps just to pick up on some things.  And once again I got reminded of how much Two to Go and Grave reference Becoming, and what I think this means for the series as a whole.

And yes, apparently all I ever talk about with BtVS are season six and Becoming, why do you ask?

On the finales: spoilers; I think it's interesting )

In other news: MY GIRLFRIEND IS BACK IN CANADA TODAY!  She was teaching overseas.  It's all very exciting.

[livejournal.com profile] 2maggie2  has a great speculative entry up about the recent arc in Buffy season eight.  Part of the crux of the argument is that a plotline in season eight mirrors Becoming in an interesting way.  This inspired me to write down my thoughts on how the structure of BtVS echoes "Becoming" repeatedly in its piortrayal of Buffy's maturation.

The majority of this is actually not about season eight, specifically, but about the entire series, so non-readers can read the first bit.  The first cut contains spoilers for the entire series of BtVS, but none for season eight.  The season eight-specific material is below a second cut.

Credit where it's due: my thoughts are culled lots and lots of sources, though I'm not explicitly copying anyone.  I do think my favourite account of Bangel and Spuffy's role in the show is from Spring Summers' Spikecentricity reviews, though, and that influences me a lot.

Also, this is unedited, because I feel like if I take time to edit I'll never publish.

Becoming throughout the series )

And this leads us to season eight.... )
