Hey. I'm not really posting that much these days -- a combination of factors, really -- but I didn't want the day to go by without saying anything. I have thought most of the day (and some of the week) about what it is that made BtVS (and Angel) mean so much to me, and was looking for some single idea that would sum it up, but I'm not sure I can.

TARA: But I'm saying, I know what Oz means to you.
WILLOW: How can I, when I'm not even sure?

So let's do this:

People are flawed. People are complicated. Everyone has their own internal life. No one is just one thing. Everyone can be forgiven -- but that doesn't mean that everyone should be permanently indulged. Idealization and demonization are two sides of the same coin. Humour is a life line, and can also turn on you, like everything else. Monsters and demons are real, but everyone else might not see them. The trick is to understand that everyone has their own internal pain and lives, without letting it overwhelm you. The trick is to somehow become yourself. Love might end the world, but love will be the thing that saves it. The world is as horrible as it sometimes seems, and there are layers and layers of lies to cover it up, but it's *still worthwhile*.

I wouldn't have met you guys if it hadn't been for this brilliant, silly, funny, serious, unfunny, badly choreographed, incoherent, weird, beautiful show. It saved my world. It changed my world. And so did you.

Anyway, my plans for the night are beer, pizza, and Welcome to the Hellmouth.

(Also, I have a (good) personal announcement to make, but I will save that for another post in a few days, so as not to have it be overshadowed. I will expect you to live with the suspense.)

Summary: Cooper tells Truman and his deputies about the latest possibly prophetic dream -- and tries to discover what it might say about Laura's killer.
Notes: Takes place in Twin Peaks in early season 2 -- shortly after 2.01, but otherwise unspecified. Spoilers for Twin Peaks up to 2.01 are vague but not nonexistent; BtVS spoilers only in the strictest sense. However, without being familiar with both works to a degree this might not make any sense. I didn't edit this one -- hope it's clear enough. I got the idea this morning and didn't want to wait.
Characters: Cooper, Truman, Andy, Hawk, Lucy. One other (a surprise!).
Disclaimer: Not mine.
Length: ~560 words.
Rating: Probably PG.
Genre: ...Comedy, I guess. Gen.

Cooper ushered Harry into the meeting room he had already set up, and where Andy and Hawk were already sitting. )

Introductory note: on Buffyforums, there's a season three rewatch and I'm writing a bit about Dead Man's Party. To try to get into the POVs of the Sunnydale characters, I wrote this.

I'm doing well in general, but I'm still fragile -- so if you don't like it, well, you know, be gentle! I include this disclaimer (and would prefer not to link to *this* version, though linking to the AO3 version is okay should I post it there) because I know how divisive this episode is, even if I'm only talking about it glancingly.

The POV style is somewhat inspired by [livejournal.com profile] beer_good_foamy's excellent Building Character, which is also of a much higher level of artistry and is strongly recommended.

Disclaimer: Not mine.
Takes place: Sunnydale, around the first week of school in s3, before "Dead Man's Party."
Characters: Giles, Xander, Willow, Cordelia, Joyce.
Word count: ~2500

So, I've been nominated at the Willowy Goodness Awards!

The nominations are for "The Magicless Bullet," and also my Willow/Faith fic, "Keeping Each Other," which I wrote for [livejournal.com profile] tiny_white_hats' Tenth Anniversary Ficathon and which I never posted here.  That's totally weird, right?  Each is up in several categories; you can click the nominations and check out all the other excellent fics nominated too.

(I didn't vote in the nominations rounds, so I'm especially sorry to see that no one voted for [livejournal.com profile] beer_good_foamy's wonderful stuff.)

Which reminds me in general that I've been meaning at some point to mention that I opened an AO3 account in which I've posted several fics that I wrote only at ficathons.  Since I figure it's probably worth having a copy of them on my lj, I will now include four stories I've written previously but have never posted here, all at different comment ficathons.

Keeping Each Other, my as-of-just-now WGA-nominated fic, based on [livejournal.com profile] daria234's prompt "Willow/Faith or Willow&Faith, post-series they work together well, but she doesn't know what she would do if the other woman went dark."
Keeping Each Other: Willow/Faith, post-series, 488 words )

For [livejournal.com profile] penny_lane_42's Not My Ship comment ficathon back in 2012, based on [livejournal.com profile] pocochina's same-titled prompt, Lindsey/Darla "that old time rock 'n' roll," came:

That Old Time Rock and Roll, Lindsey/Darla, PG, 769 words, early s2 )

Going way back, two fics written for [livejournal.com profile] catbirdfish's Women On Top Kink meme back in 2011, both based on [livejournal.com profile] ever_neutral's prompts.  One is a black-comedy Spike/Anya s7 pairing, the other a slightly sombrer Cordelia/Wesley post-"Graduation Day" fic.  I left them untiltled at the time and only have titles now.

An Acceptable Substitute: Spike/Anya, PG-13 or so, s7, 560 words )

Post-Graduation Blues, Cordelia/Wesley, shortly post-"Graudation Day," PG-13, 605 words )

ETA: It went so much without saying that I forgot to say it, but THANK YOU to whoever nominated me!  It is very much appreciated. :)

Well, I guess I will have to do this eventually.  I have posted a lot of this stuff in the past before, but mostly in private.  Consider this incomplete.  I also have always wanted to post a thing like this but have always hesitated because I will surely come up with a better way to say it in the future.  However, I'm having a rough couple of days due to family issues and I guess if it helps to write this and post it it'll be okay to deal with it not being the best it could be.

I recently posted a slightly different version of this on Mark Field's excellent blog running through Buffy episodes and interpreting them.  His interpretations are very strongly Buffy-centric, which is why I think I disagree with him on aspects of his assessment of Two to Go/Grave, and which led me to write this.  He suggested I post it somewhere else, so, uh, here I am!

Because of pressing personal and fandom issues, I would request that commenters be kind (there is a lot of relate-y material here). I also may not respond to comments due to said issues or the like.

TW: uh, suicide, depression, family dysfunction, addiction, that type of thing.

TW: long discussion of death and insanity.

Spoiler warning for BtVS season five.

Notes: Somewhat inspired by an exchange with lostboy_lj yesterday.

However, some of this is somewhat emotional, RL-y stuff which I found out about today.  None of it is specific enough that I feel like I’m sharing anything too personal.  OTOH, it is emotional enough that I am really not guaranteeing I reply to all comments.  It is what it is.  For the record, it’s my grandmother and it’s a long story that I don’t want to get into, thanks (I am mostly saying this so people don't think it's about me or my mother or my non-existent siblings -- there are two generations removed; I'm okay).

Since this is partly actually not about the show, it is very possible that I am wrong.  I’m almost tempted not to allow comments on the entry, but, well, yeah, comments are fine, but keep in mind what I said.

I also didn't edit this or anything, so keep that in mind as well.

Here's the thing about season five. )

Just released!

Warnings: um, you remember what happened in Graduation Day with Buffy, Faith and Angel?  Er.  Sort of, use your imagination.  Weirder.  Discussion of blood play (?).

Disclaimer: Obviously, since this is a script fragment, none of the characters are mine but belong to Joss Whedon, Mutant Enemy.
Disclaimer 2: Obviously, this is not actually a script fragment.

Graduation Day, Part 1 ended a little differently in its original conception. )

It seems I've been nominated for awards!

First, my s7 Willow fic "Closure" has been nominated for Best Ficlet at the Absence of Light awards.

Also my meta entry "Words of Willow: 'Witch,' Mirrors and Mommy Issues" has been nominated for best meta at the No Rest for the Wicked Awards.

While I haven't read many of the other nominees in the Ficlet except for [livejournal.com profile] beer_good_foamy's typically excellent "Drive It Like You Stole It" (I tend to keep to my flist), I have read all the other meta entries at the NRFTW awards (listed alphabetically by author so I don't seem to be playing favourites!), by "Buffy, the Vampire Slayer Buffy the Vampire Slayer" by [livejournal.com profile] beer_good_foamy, "Rules of Engagement: Violence and Hyperreality in the Buffyverse" by [livejournal.com profile] lostboy_lj and "The Mirror Crack'd: Doppelgangers on BtVS, part 1" [livejournal.com profile] red_satin_doll and all three are very much worth your time.  Thanks very much to whoever nominated me for each!

Char and rating: Willow, Buffy/Angel, PG-13: sexual content, bondage, some Angel mocking.

Genre: Comedy.

Notes: Not my ship usually, but I had this idea I couldn’t resist.  Hopefully you like it.  Happy holiday season!

Takes place: Post-NFA, not comics continuity.

Summary: Buffy and Angel are a couple sometime post-series.  Willow has arranged for what she hopes will be the perfect holiday present.

Words: around 275.

Disclaimer: All character and the like are owned by Mutant Enemy and other organizations, to none of which I belong.

Willow Series: I’ve felt an urge lately to talk about Willow, my understanding of her character, my feeling about her role in the narrative, and my identification with her.  This series will hopefully give me a chance to explore what I think makes Willow tick.  My plan is to go episode-by-episode and point out a few things we learn about her during the series; that said, I will want to jump around when major themes are indicated.  Comics are considered canon for the purposes of this series, but they will rarely be required reading, though there is a blanket spoiler warning on issues that have been released.

I’m writing some notes with 2maggie2 and her brother Strudel (currently on temporary hiatus), so some of these thoughts have been expressed over there.  But the point of view is different here: my take is both more personal, and I am giving myself more leeway to present a Willow POV (as I understand it) without having to explain in detail every distortion.  So, for example, if I talk about some action undertaken by Buffy or Xander or Tara, and how it affects Willow, it should be understood, most of the time, that I’m looking at that through a Willow lens, and that I’m not going into as much detail about what motivates the others.  That said, BtVS is structured around character parallels and interactions, and I don’t intend to banish the other characters from this discussion entirely.

Disagreement is fine, obviously, but some willingness to sympathize with Willow, and some sensitivity to the personal nature of the posts, is expected.  I don’t claim to have the only understanding to the character, who can be very opaque: I just hope to offer an interpretation.

You can find an introduction here, discussion of Welcome to the Hellmouth/The Harvest here.  Updates will be…sporadic.

All quotes are either from memory or from Buffyworld transcripts.

Do not expect that all posts will be of the length of the following one; despite ostensibly being Willow-light, The Witch tells us so much about the way the narrative world of the show operates, and it will all be very important to Willow.

Unwieldy thoughts about magic, the Madisons, high school, mothers, and using people. )
